Since 1933: THE HARDWOOD FORESTS OF Vermont and New York
Our History: Starting in the Great Depression of the 1930's and the Northern hardwood furniture industry, our family has depended upon, and treasured, the forests of Vermont and New York. These lands have supplied oak, pine, maple, birch, and cherry to manufacturers for over a century. By the third generation, the family concentrated solely on the ownership and sustainable management of our hardwood forests. The fourth generation of the family continues to broaden this involvement. Conservation and the ecosystem markets are now an important part of the family's philanthropic and business evolution.
Ownership: 15,000 acres of land and timber rights within Vermont and the Adirondack Park (NY), all abutting or within public recreation areas & forests.
Conservation and recreational easements are integral to our principals (partnering with the Trust for Public Land, The VT Land Trust, NYS DEC and others). Resources are managed for the "long-term" with the objective of inter-generational ownership. The carbon and ecosystems markets are part of our long term planning.
Besides traditional Forest Legacy and stand-alone conservation easements, multiple parcels have been placed in the Green Mountain National Forest. Some of our ownership results from working with sellers or partners who wish to retain long-term recreational usage of the land. We practice responsible forestry principles, reflecting our long-term view towards ownership.

For our National Forest Projects, please see the four articles about our work with The Trust for Public Land adding significant acreage to the Green Mountain National Forest and protecting the Appalachian Trail. Our Vermont Projects include protecting 1,700 acres in Sharon (Vermont Land Trust), 108 acres placed into the Roxbury State Forest (Trust for Public Land), and 930 acres protected abutting Groton State Forest (Vermont Land Trust and the State of Vermont). New York Donations include our 4,000 acres in the Northern Adirondack Park, recently donated for improving recreational use. Recreational Partnerships include partnering with the Robinwood Club, a long-standing family oriented recreational club. Collectively, we acquired 4,200 acres in the Adirondack Park protected by a DEC (New York) easement.
